Well, microfiche lenses almost by definition are designed to present the user with a sharp image of a flat field that's pretty small. My biggest concern from a theoretical standpoint is that the readers I'm familiar have a thick chunk of "cover glass" that the lens has to look through. Presumably the lenses are optimized to take that into account. I haven't played around with them enough to have any feel how much this matters. More experience required!
